GETTING CLOSER – 2024 IN REVIEW

It’s crazy to think that playing a beaten down muni in Dallas in 1999 would start a quest that continued in 2024. I had no idea that the simple phrase “Host of the 1927 PGA” at the Cedar Crest Golf Club in south Dallas would inspire such an incredible journey for the subsequent 25 years! And what a journey it has been!

As I reflect on the four wonderful courses I played in 2024 (Harding Park & Hillcrest CC in California, Manito CC in Washington and Scioto CC in Ohio), I’m reminded of all the great people I’ve met on the quest and the generosity of the members and club pros who have given me the opportunity to play their courses.

I have now played 78 of the 104 courses that have hosted US majors. I had hoped to get to 80 in 2024 but outside events prevented me from doing so. However, I completed play in Washington state, meaning I’ve now played all of the courses in 14 states (although I will be adding PGA Frisco this year, which will open Texas back up). The closer I get to the finish line, the more important it is to me to complete a state.

I’m hoping to play seven more courses in 2025 with the goal of getting to 85 by this time next year. I’m committed to focus more on my golf game, with the goal of having a single digit (albeit a high one) handicap in 2025. I’m also planning to document my rounds a little better – the older I get the more I need to write things down!

Happy 2025 everyone! Hit ’em straight!

  1. Todd, it’s so great to hear of your 2024 additions and can’t wait to read about how your 2025 slate goes! It’s such fun telling other golf enthusiasts about this! Such an inspiring quest! All the best!
