The Frigidaire Classic, a family tradition

It started as a quirky family gathering, the boys heading to the golf course over the holidays.  In North Carolina, where we would typically gather, the weather was always on the edge of comfortable for golf purposes.  Sometimes it’d be reasonable – high 40’s or low 50’s.  At other times, it’d be truly frigid – as evidenced by the picture that became our logo.  When this picture was taken, the ponds were completely frozen over and we lasted only 13 holes.  What started out as the “Refrigerator Open”, turned into a treasured family event – the Frigidaire Classic!

Since it’s humble beginnings, the Classic has taken on a life of its own.  Back in 1996, we were just heading out to play golf over the holidays.  In 1998, we named our first champion, my brother Scott.  Since then, all four charter members have claimed the title, and the tournament has been played in two countries, seven states, and on sixteen courses.  With my son, Blake Elliott taking home the 2015 trophy, a third generation Elliott has now hoisted the coveted trophy, ensuring its continued  relevance among our clan.

Stay tuned for updates from the next Classic!
